It is my
understanding, that every person in their childhood
years would usually
fantasize about reaching adulthood. Of course, half of us were not prepared for
what was about to hit us and as a result, ended up being bitter adults with
false pretence and some how feeling robbed. The following tips are what I hope
to be a "reset button" and also a starting manual for many teenagers
across the world.
Believe in your
Individuality - During the course of life, its easy to compare our journey with
that of our friends and relatives. The process might be thrilling as though
we're on a race track and on a race track, there can only be one winner so
let's look at ourselves differently. Realize that you're unique and appreciate
the fact that your journey will be different than others, because your
destinations are not the same.
Work on becoming
your best Self - When we look in the mirror, there is always a spectacle on our
body we'd like to change or wished were different. There's nothing wrong with
self improvement but a "pretty face and bad character" is not the route
to take. Character building begins in the earliest stages of socialisation but
by the time we're eighteen, we make choices that either enhance or destroy our
character. Your character tells the world a prelude of what awaits in your
destiny and its cognizant that you strive to make wise choices.
Acknowledge your
Gift - We all have a gift. It may take some time to understand what that gift
is but we can't deny that we possess it. How you choose to use that gift, can
either make you miserable or the happiest person in the world. What's important
to note, is that every gift was created to impact the life of another so ask
yourself the big question; What is my gift and what do I plan to do with it?
Grow your Finance -
I'm sure you are eager to know how to increase your net worth and the answer is
inside of you. Whether you have a job or not, there is an idea already planted
in your mind. Do you honestly think the idea that popped into your mind about a
business was crazy? Well you can either settle for having no money or not
having enough money. Don't be mistaken, I'm not encouraging you to go on a wild
tangent joining "get rich quick schemes" or starting any business
that comes to mind. Create your wealth by doing something you're passionate
about, do your research and start small.
Make Travel a
priority - You may aspire to do many things but it's very important to make
traveling a "Must do". Seeing different parts of the world can open
your line of thinking on so many levels. You'd never limit yourself to any
thing and most of all, you will appreciate your independence a lot more. There
is just something so liberating about buying a plane ticket, boarding the plane
and taking off into the blue skies, knowing that you're giving yourself a
wonderful experience.
Gather Knowledge -
Learning never stops but sometimes we block ourselves from getting information.
Never live with the perception that reading is for "Nerds". Without
information, you are powerless and penniless, and that is only true if the information
isn't put into action. So it is true; what you do not know, can definitely hurt
you.
Don't make Marriage
your Ultimate goal - We all hear that marriage is beautiful but we also ignore
the advice that it should not be rushed. I applaud couples who have found love
in their Twenties but my opinion will remain that unless you are secure as an
individual, there is no way you're ready for marriage. Of course, you would
hope that both you and your partner share the intention of marriage but due
diligence is of greater importance than walking down the aisle.
The greatest
opportunity in your Twenties is having the tools in your hands to build the
foundation for the future you want. It's a place of liberation and molding.
It's where you declare to the world what you will and will not tolerate. You
only get to pass through your Twenties once and when that time has passed,
there should be very few regrets.
